The Spa Garden
A walk through the ample Spa Gardens of Bad Salzhausen is something special.
As opposed to other health resorts the park is not confined by streets, but merges with the marvellous surrounding landscape. In an area of 52 hectare you can find over 300 different kinds of trees, an exceptional botanical diversity. The Bad Salzhausen Spa Gardens belong to the oldest spa gardens of Germany.
Nowadays the trees, which have been planted quite some time ago, are up to 30 metres high. There are botanical treasures, which can be seen and enjoyed in Bad Salzhausen. Here too, the salt has left its mark. Salt plants, which you can usually only find along coastlines, enrich the colourful diversity. Midland salt meadows are very rare and exotic habitats because of their geological and botanical peculiarities.
Strictly speaking Bad Salzhausen has two spa gardens. The so called upper spa garden was created around 1826. The lower spa garden was arranged in the fifties and encloses the salt water springs. The buildings of the old saline are a romantic ensemble and offer a beautiful scenery for numerous cultural events. Highlight of the annual cultural events is the “Parkfest” with fireworks and park illumination. It takes place every third Saturday in July.
